So today I am going to be discussing the most dreaded thing about Slippery Rock University, and I am not talking about the weather! One of my most despised types of classes at this University is the night class. This semester I have one on Mondays and Fridays, as well as a class on Thursday that runs from 3:30 to 6:15. The two that I mentioned that are at the beginning of the week are two hours and thirty minutes, so on average my classes run over two hours long. The length of these classes along with the fact that If you miss one class it is equivalent to missing a whole week of regular classes and can effect your attendance grade majorly!
There are some benefits to these classes though! They are only once a week so the motivation to go and not miss is high. Also, there is very little homework and the classes are generally small, so getting to know everyone is easy. Then, the fact that it is later in the day may have a better mindset on the students who dislike waking up in the morning. Last, it gives you a whole week to study for a test without any other homework in the class.
So all in all, night classes have their benefits as well as their downfalls. Respond to my post with your reaction to night classes!
Dennis, I don't really know how to describe my feelings about night classes. I agree when you say they have good and bad aspects; but the pros and cons are almost evenly matched. I love that they are only once a week but they are just so long to sit through. Also, I work majority of my shifts at night so its hard having night classes on what are supposed to be my nights off; if you can even call it that since I'm sitting in a two hour lecture. I will say night classes aren't the worst thing that can happen to a student; and thankfully, in my case anyway, they don't happen too often.
ReplyDeleteI've taken two night classes over my college education. the first was last year here at SRU. The material covered in the class wasn't very interesting but the professor I took made up for that. He was very lively and tended to make a lot of jokes throughout each class session. This made coming to class from 5 - 7:30 a lot easier. I also took a night class at my community college over the summer. It was a biology class that took place on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Each Tuesday was a lab day and we'd be there from 5 - 7:30. Then on Thursdays we had class from 6 - 9:50. It was four hours of boring class material in a dark basement classroom with no windows. I struggled each and every week to go to class. Luckily since it was a transfer class all I needed was a C to transfer the credit. I didn't put much effort into the class and managed to get a B in the long run. The credit transferred and now I am officially done with liberal arts classes!
ReplyDeleteI took a night class last semester. I hated it. I think it was also like 2 hours or so long. But it was a big classroom so it was mostly like a lecture. They also did take attendance so you had to be there no matter if you dreaded to go.
